Afiş, içeriğine bağlı olarak taşıdığı mesajı soyut ya da somut kavramların
çeşitli tekniklerle görselleştirilmesi yoluyla alıcısına aktaran bir görsel iletişim
aracıdır. Afişler ticari, kültürel veya sosyal yaşama dair içerikleri, yazı ve çeşitli
görsel ifade biçimlerinin birlikteliğine dayalı olarak görselleştiren grafik
ürünlerdir ve bireysel veya kamusal alanlarda, iç ve dış mekan kullanımlarıyla
geniş kitlelere ulaşabilirler. Afiş tasarımının en önemli öğesi tipografidir. Belirli
bir amaç ya da içeriğe bağlı olarak yazı karakteri seçimi, punto ölçüsü ve harf
arası boşlukları ayarlama vb. unsurları göz önünde bulundurarak tasarlanmış
yazılar tipografi olarak tanımlanır.
Yazı, bulunduğu günden günümüze farklı medeniyetlerin kendine özgü harf,
sembol biçimleri ve alfabe sistemleriyle gelişimini sürdürmüş ve nihai formunu
bulmuştur. Yazının temel öğe olduğu tipografi ise modern sanat ve tasarım
hareketlerinin de etkisi ile yeni biçim ve karakterlere bürünerek gelişimini devam
ettirmiştir. Araştırmanın kuramsal temellerini bu gelişim sürecinin dönemlere
göre incelenmesi oluşturmaktadır. Söz konusu süreç içerisinde pek çok farklı yazı
karakterinin çeşitli sınıflandırmalar kapsamında geliştirildiği görülmektedir. Her
bir yazı karakterinin yaygın olarak afiş tasarımında özgün tipografik
çözümlemelere imkan tanıdığı söylenebilir. Bir yazı tipine ait farklı ağırlıkların
tek bir yazı tipi dosyası içinde kompakt bir şekilde yer aldığı ve günümüzde
kullanım alanları oldukça yaygın hale gelen değişken (variable) fontların afiş
tasarımında kullanımı bu araştırmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Özellikle
tipografik ağırlıklı afiş tasarımlarında bir yazı karakterine ait çeşitli
varyasyonların bir arada kullanımının sağlayacağı görsel zenginlik ve esneklik,
tez çalışması kapsamında yer alan hareketli afiş uygulamaları ile araştırılmıştır.
Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular; gelişen dijital teknolojilerle
birlikte grafik tasarımcıların afişlerindeki anlatım gücünün değişmekte ve
çeşitlenmekte olduğunu göstermektedir. Değişken fontların ise tasarımcılara yeni
ve özgün tasarımlar oluşturma imkanı sunduğu, çok katmanlı ve dinamik
çözümlemelerle mesajın iletimi konusunda işlevsel bir rol üstlendiği
görülmektedir.
A poster is a visual communication tool that conveys the message it
carries, depending on its content, to the recipient through the visualization of
abstract or concrete concepts with various techniques. Posters are graphic
products that visualize the contents of commercial, cultural or social life based on
the combination of writing and various forms of visual expression, and they can
reach large audiences with indoor and outdoor use in individual or public spaces.
The most important element of poster design is typography. Depending on a
specific purpose or content, font selection, point size and letter spacing, etc. can
be adjusted. Writings designed by considering the elements are defined as
typography.
Writing has continued its development and found its final form with the
distinctive letter, symbol forms and alphabet systems of different civilizations
since the day it was found. Typography, in which writing is the basic element,
continued its development by taking on new forms and characters with the
influence of modern art and design movements. The theoretical basis of the
research consists of examining this development process according to periods. It
is seen that many different typefaces were developed within the scope of various
classifications in the said process. It can be said that each typeface allows for
unique typographic solutions in poster design. The subject of this research is the
use of variable fonts in poster design, where different weights of a font are
compactly contained in a single font file and their usage areas have become quite
common today. The visual richness and flexibility that will be provided by the use
of various variations of a typeface, especially in typographically-weighted poster
designs, has been investigated with animated poster applications within the scope
of the thesis study.
The findings obtained as a result of the research; It shows that the
expressive power of graphic designers' posters is changing and diversifying with
the developing digital technologies. It is seen that variable fonts offer designers
the opportunity to create new and original designs, and play a functional role in
the transmission of the message with multi-layered and dynamic solutions
