Bu araştırmanın amacı bilgi işlemsel düşünme etkinliklerinin 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin problem çözmeye yönelik beceri ve tutumlarına etkisinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmada karma yöntem kullanılmakla birlikte araştırma tür olarak deneysel bir araştırma niteliği taşımaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında öğrencilerin problem çözme becerilerinin ortaya çıkarılması ve sürece yönelik görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla nitel yöntemlerden, bilgi işlemsel düşünme etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin problem çözme becerileri ve problem çözmeye yönelik tutumları üzerindeki etkisini belirleyebilmek içinse nicel yöntemlerden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2022-2023 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Rize iline bağlı bir devlet okulunun farklı iki şubesinde öğrenim görmekte olan ve toplamda 37 kişiden oluşan 7. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Bu öğrencilerin 18’i deney, 19’u ise kontrol grubunda yer almıştır. Örneklem grubunun belirlenmesinde uygun örnekleme tekniği kullanılarak araştırmacının kendi okulunda öğrenim gören öğrenciler çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir.
Bu araştırmanın mevcut alt problemlerine yanıt bulmak amacıyla beş farklı veri toplama aracı kullanılmıştır. Bunlar i) bilgi-işlemsel düşünme etkinlikleri, ii) problem çözme beceri testi, iii) problem çözmeye yönelik tutum ölçeği, iv) öğrenci görüş formu ve v) yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler’dir. Araştırma kapsamında kullanılan bilgi-işlemsel düşünme etkinlikleri 16 adet olup, etkinliklerin her biri bilgi-işlemsel düşünme becerilerinin farklı boyutlarına odaklanmaktadır. Bunlar parçalara ayırma, soyutlama, örüntü-model çıkarma ile değerlendirme ve hata ayıklama’dır. Bunların dışında sözü edilen boyutların tamamını içeren bilgi işlemsel problemler de etkinlikler içerisinde yer almış ve araştırma kapsamında kullanılmıştır. Problem çözme beceri testi’nin amacı öğrencilerin problem çözmeye yönelik beceri ve performanslarını değerlendirmektir ve ilgili testte 12 adet açık uçlu problem yer almaktadır. Problem çözmeye yönelik tutum ölçeği 19 maddeden oluşmaktadır “hoşlanma” ve “öğretim” olmak üzere iki farklı boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Öğrenci görüş formunda ise dört adet açık uçlu soru yer almıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda bilgi işlemsel düşünme etkinliklerinin deney grubundaki öğrencilerin problem çözmeye yönelik beceri ve tutumlarında olumlu bir etkisi olmakla birlikte bu etkinin anlamlı düzeyde olmadığı gözlenmiştir. Süreç sonunda öğrencilerin, söz konusu etkinliklerin kendilerine matematik dersine yönelik farklı bir bakış açısı kazandırdığını, problem çözme becerilerini arttırdığını, bir problemin birden fazla çözümü olabileceğini fark etmelerini sağladığını ve bu tür etkinliklere derslerde daha fazla yer verilmesi gerektiğini ifade ettikleri görülmüştür.
The aim of this research is to examine the effects of computational thinking activities
on 7th grade students' skills and attitudes towards problem solving. Although mixed method
is used in the research, the research has the characteristics of an experimental research as a
type. Within the scope of the research, qualitative methods were used to reveal students'
problem solving skills and to determine their views on the process, and quantitative methods
were u sed to determine the effect of computational thinking activities on students' problem
solving skills and attitudes towards problem solving. The study group of the research consists
of 7th grade students, consisting of 37 students in total, studying in two different branches of
a public school in Rize in the 2022 2023 academic year. Among these students, 18 were in the
experimental group, and 19 were in the control group. The researcher used a convenient
sampling technique to select students from their o wn school to participate in the study. To
address the research's subproblems, five different data collection tools were used, including i)
computational thinking activities, ii) problem solving skills test, iii) problem solving attitude
scale, iv) student opinion form, and v) semi structured interviews. The comprising 16 activities
focusing on different dimensions of computational thinking, such as decomposition,
abstraction, pattern model extraction, and debugging. The research also included
computational problems that encompassed all these dimensions.
The problem
solving skills test aimed to evaluate students' problem solving abilities
and performance, consisting of 12 open ended problems. The problem solving attitude scale
consists of 19 items measuring t wo dimensions: "liking" and "instruction." The student opinion
form included four open ended questions. The results of the research indicated that
computational thinking activities had a positive effect on the problem solving skills and
attitudes of studen ts in the experimental group, but this effect was not statistically significant.
At the end of the process, students expressed that these activities provided them with different
perspectives, enhanced their problem solving skills, made them realize that th ere could be
multiple solutions to a problem, and emphasized the need for more inclusion of such activities
in lessons.
