Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı üniversite düzeyinde öğrenim gören sağlık bilimleri fakültesi öğrencilerinin sağlık okuryazarlığı kavramı kapsamında bilgi ve deneyim düzeylerini belirlemektir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Nicel araştırma deseni içinde yer alan tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel olarak tasarlanan araştırmanın evrenini özel bir üniversitede Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesinde Aralık 2022-Ocak 2023 tarihleri arasında öğrenim gören 947 lisans öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır, evrenden örneklem seçimine gidilmeksizin tüm öğrencilere ulaşmak hedeflenmiştir. Araştırmada sosyo-demografik özellikleri belirlemeye yönelik sorular ile araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Bilgi ve Deneyim Anketi” kullanılarak veriler elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analiz edilmesi için SPSS-27 for Windows paket programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri sayı (n), yüzdelik dağılım (%), ortalamalar (±standart sapma) ve tablolar ile ifade edilmiştir. Araştırma verilerinin, t testi ve ANOVA (Post Hoc Tukey ve Games Howell) testleri kullanılarak istatiksel analizi yapılmıştır. Anketin doğrulayıcı faktör analizlerine ilişkin sonuçlarına göre uyum indekslerinin genel olarak kabul edilebilir uyuma sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Analiz sonucunda, “Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Bilgi ve Deneyim Anketi”ne yönelik dört alt boyut oluşturulmuştur. Dört alt boyutun toplam varyansın %79.37’sini açıkladığı görülmüştür ve her bir değişkenin ilgili faktöre pozitif ve yüksek bir korelasyonla yüklendiğini açıklanmıştır. Anketin Cronbach alfa değeri ise 0.832 ve alt boyutların ise “kendi kendine yardım/tedavi müdahaleleri hakkında bilgi” .825; “Hastayla İletişim ve Empati Kurabilme” .772; “Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Hakkında Bilgi Sahibi Olma” .713 ve “Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Hakkında Profesyonel Yardıma Ulaşabilmeye Yönelik Bilgi” .800 olarak saptanmıştır. Alt boyutların güvenirlik katsayılarının yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmış ve anketin güvenilir ve tutarlı sonuçlar meydana getirdiği görülmüştür.
Bulgular: Araştırmaya toplam 302 öğrenci katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin %74.2’si (n=224) kadın, %25.8’i (n=78) erkektir. Araştırma sonuçlarımıza göre öğrencilerin cinsiyet, bölüm, sınıf, yeterli ve sağlıklı beslenme durumu ile sağlık okuryazarlığı kavramını bilme durumlarına göre sağlık okuryazarlığı bilgi ve deneyim anketi toplam ve alt boyutları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık saptanmıştır. Sigara kullanma durumu ve genel sağlık durumlarına göre de anlamlı farklılık saptanamamıştır.
Sonuç: Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sağlık okuryazarlığı bilgi ve deneyim düzeyleri orta düzeyde saptanmıştır.
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the knowledge and experiential levels of students enrolled in a university-level health sciences faculty within the scope of the concept of health literacy.
Material and Method: The study, designed within the framework of a quantitative research design and employing a descriptive and cross-sectional approach, includes a population of 947 undergraduate students studying at a private university Faculty of Health Sciences between December 2022 and January 2023. The researchers aimed to reach all students without using a sampling method. Data was collected using a "Health Literacy Knowledge and Experience Questionnaire" developed by the researchers, which included questions to determine socio-demographic characteristics. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS-27 for Windows statistical package program. The research data was presented in terms of numbers (n), percentage distributions (%), means (± standard deviation), and tables. To analyze the research data, t-test and ANOVA (Post Hoc Tukey and Games Howell) tests were used. According to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis of the questionnaire, it was observed that the fit indices were generally at an acceptable level of congruence. The analysis revealed four sub-dimensions of the "Health Literacy Knowledge and Experience Questionnaire." These four sub-dimensions explained 79.37% of the total variance, and each variable was positively and highly correlated with the relevant factor. The questionnaire's Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.832, and the sub-dimensions were determined as follows: "Knowledge about self-help/treatment interventions" 0.825, "Ability to communicate and empathize with patients" 0.772, "Having knowledge about health literacy" 0.713, and "Knowledge to access professional help related to health literacy" 0.800. The high reliability coefficients of the sub-dimensions indicated that the questionnaire yielded reliable and consistent results.
Results: A total of 302 students participated in the study. Of the participants, 74.2% (n=224) were female and 25.8% (n=78) were male. According to the research results, statistically significant differences were found among the total and sub-dimensions of the health literacy knowledge and experience questionnaire based on students' gender, department, academic year, their perception of having sufficient and healthy nutrition, and their knowledge about the concept of health literacy. No significant differences were found based on smoking status and general health condition.
Conclusions: The health literacy knowledge and experiential levels of students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences have been identified at a moderate level.
