Meryemana Manastırı, Giresun ilinin Şebinkarahisar ilçesinde Sarıyer köyü Kayadibi mahallesinde yüksek bir kayanın içerisine oyularak inşa edilmiştir. İlk yapılış zamanları Hristiyanlığın ilk ortaya çıkışı ve yayılmaya başladığı dönemlere denk geldiği bilinen Manastırın tarihi kesin olarak bilinmemekle birlikte ilk kuruluşunun kaynaklarda 481- 490 tarihleri verilmiş olsa da bu görüşü destekleyecek herhangi bir belge mevcut değildir. Farklı dönemlerde incelendiğinde manastırın Bizans döneminde önemli bir hac merkezi olduğu, Osmanlı döneminde ise parlak bir dönem geçirdiği ve XIX. yüzyılda yandığı ve tamamen yenilendiği bilinmektedir.
Meryemana Manastırı büyük ölçüde tahribata uğrayarak günümüze gelmiş, önemli taşınmaz varlıklar arasında Meryemana Manastırı 2013 ve 2014 yıllarında başlatılan restorasyon çalışmalarıyla turizme kazandırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Fakat Manastıra ait projeler incelendiğinde restorasyon yapılırken uygunsuz müdahalelerde bulunulduğu ve orijinaline uygun olarak yapılmadığı, özgünlüğünü kaybettiği gözlemlenmiştir.
Çalışmamızın öncelikli olarak amacı, Manastır birimlerinde yapılan restorasyonları anlatmak, çevresindeki manastırlarla birlikte sanat tarihi açısından karşılaştırma ve değerlendirmenin ardından restorasyon ile ilgili değerlendirmeler ile birlikte ayrıntılı olarak ele alınarak literatüre kazandırmaktır.
The Virgin Mary Monastery was built by carving into a high rock in the Kayadibi neighborhood of Sarıyer village in the Şebinkarahisar district of Giresun province. Although the date of the monastery, which is known to coincide with the first emergence and spread of Christianity, is not known precisely, there is no document to support this view, although the dates of its first foundation are given in the sources 481-490. The Monastery of the Virgin Mary has survived to a great extent after being destroyed, and among the important immovable assets, the Monastery of the Virgin Mary was tried to be brought into tourism with the restoration works initiated in 2013 and 2014. However, when the projects belonging to the Monastery were examined, it was observed that inappropriate interventions were made during the restoration and it was not made in accordance with the original, and it lost its originality.
The primary aim of our study is to describe the restorations made in the monasteries, to compare and evaluate the surrounding monasteries in terms of art history, and to bring them into the literature by discussing them in detail with the evaluations about the restoration.
