Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinde Sosyotelizm ve İletişim Becerileri Arasındaki İlişki

Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı hemşirelik öğrencilerinde sosyotelizm ve iletişim becerileri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve ilişki arayıcı türde yapılan bu araştırma 15.02.2022- 26.01.2023 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini Ordu Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik Bölümünde eğitim gören 369 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Genel Sosyotelist Olma (GSO) Ölçeği ve İletişim Becerileri Ölçeği (İBÖ) ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, Bağımsız İki Örneklem t testi, Mann Whitney U testi, Anova testi, Kruskal Wallis testi, Spearman korelasyon analizi ve Bonferroni testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma başlamadan önce Ordu Üniversitesi Rektörlüğünden ve Ordu Üniversitesi Klinik Araştırmalar Etik Kurulu’ndan gerekli izinler alınmıştır. Katılımcılardan sözlü ve yazılı onamları alınmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %55.3’ünün 21-23 yaş aralığında, %74.5’inin kadın olduğu, %56.6’sının günlük 3.01-6 saat boyunca akıllı telefon kullandığı, %55’inin hemşirelik bakımı uygularken hasta ile iletişimde bazen güçlük yaşadığını ifade ettiği belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin GSO Ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması 44.06±13.25 ve İBÖ toplam puan ortalaması 97.99±11.04 olarak bulunmuştur. GSO ölçeği ile İBÖ arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, negatif yönlü ve düşük düzeyli bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir (r=-0.194). Öğrencilerin cinsiyet, gelir düzeyi, günlük akıllı telefon kullanım süresi, gün içerisinde telefona bakmadan geçirilen süre, iletişim becerilerini nasıl değerlendirdiği, arkadaşları ve hemşirelik bakımı uygularken hasta ile iletişimde güçlük yaşama durumlarına göre GSO ölçeği toplam puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur (p<0.05). Öğrencilerin sınıf, şu anda herhangi bir işte çalışma durumu, akıllı telefon kullanım süresi, iletişim becerilerini nasıl değerlendirdiği, kendini sosyal bir birey olarak düşünme durumu, sosyal etkinliklere katılma sıklığı, arkadaşları ile ve hemşirelik bakımı uygularken hasta ile iletişimde güçlük yaşama durumuna göre İBÖ toplam puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p<0.05). Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin sosyotelizm düzeylerinin orta, iletişim becerilerinin ise yüksek düzeyde olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, sosyotelizm düzeyi yüksek olan hemşirelik öğrencilerinin iletişim beceri düzeylerinin daha düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Meslek hayatına başlamadan önce hemşirelik öğrencilerinde sosyotelizm ve iletişim beceri düzeylerinin belirlenmesi ve konu ile ilgili öğrencileri destekleyecek programlar geliştirilmesi önerilmektedir.

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between phubbing and communication skills in nursing students. Material and Method: This descriptive and relationship-seeking type research was conducted between 15.02.2022 and 26.01.2023. The sample of the study consisted of 369 students studying at the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Ordu University. The data of the study were collected with the Personal Information Form, the General Phubbing Scale (GPS), and the Communication Skills Scale (CSS). Descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-Test, Mann Whitney U Test, Anova Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Spearman Correlation Analysis and Bonferroni Test were used in the analysis of the data. Necessary permissions were obtained from Ordu University and Ordu University Clinical Research Ethics Committee before the research started. Verbal and written consent was obtained from the participants. Results: It was determined that 55.3% of the students participating in the research are between the ages of 21-23, 74.5% of them are women, 56.6% of them use a smartphone for 3.01-6 hours a day, 55% stated that they sometimes had difficulties in communicating with the patient while applying nursing care. The students' GPS total score average was 44.06±13.25 and the CSS total score average was 97.99±11.04. A statistically significant, negative and low-level relationship was found between the GPS and the CSS (r=-0.194). A statistically significant difference was found between the GPS total score averages according to the students' gender, income level, daily smartphone usage time, time spent without looking at the phone during the day, how the students evaluated their communication skills, the situation of having difficulties in communicating with their friends and the patient while applying nursing care (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the CSS total score averages according to the students’ class, current employment status, smartphone usage time, how the students evaluated their communication skills, to think of himself as a social individual, frequency of participation in social activities, the situation of having difficulties in communicating with friends and the patient while applying nursing care (p<0.05). Conclusions: It was determined that the phubbing levels of the nursing students were medium and their communication skills were high. As a result of the research, it was seen that the communication skill levels of nursing students with a high phubbing level were lower. Before starting their professional life, it is recommended to determine the pubbing and communication skill levels of nursing students and to develop programs to support students on the subject.
