Bu çalışmada ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin çevre ile ilgili kavramları nasıl ifade ettikleri, bilgileri ve bu konudaki duyarlıkları belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında katılımcılardan veri toplamak amacıyla araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen üç bölümden oluşan veri toplama aracı kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları ışığında aşağıdaki sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: Öğrencilerin çevre kavramına vâkıf oldukları, hem doğal hem de yapay çevrenin ve kültürel çevrenin farkında oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin çevre ile ilgili kavram bilgilerini ölçen sorulara verdikleri yanıtlar incelendiğinde, “Erozyon nedir?” sorusuna öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun yanlış cevap verdiği, çok az öğrencinin ağaç olmayan yerlerin uçması şeklinde cevap verdikleri görülmüş ve erozyon kavramını bilmedikleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çığ tanımlamasında öğrencilerin yarısına yakınının bu tanımlamayı yapmadığı, ancak deprem kavramını ayrıntılı bir şekilde tanımladıkları görülmektedir. Hava kirliliği, su kirliği, toprak kirliliği de tam olarak açıklayamadıkları, fakat örnekler yoluyla ve kendi cümleleriyle ifade ettikleri kavramlar olarak görülmektedir.
In this study, it was aimed to determine how the primary school 4th grade students express the concepts related to the environment and to present their knowledge and sensitivity about this. Case study, which is one of qualitative research method was used in this study. In order to gather data, a scale which is formed of three sections, was developed by the researchers. In the light of the findings, the results of the study are as follows: Within the first section; through the questions directed to determine the awareness levels it was found that the students were aware of both natural and cultural environments. When the answers of the students to the questions about their environmental knowledge were examined, most of the students had wrong reply to the “what is erosion” question, few students answered as the sliding the land; and this showed that students did not know the term of “erosion”. It was also seen that
half of the students could not define “avalanche” but almost all could define “earthquake”. They could barely express air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution concepts but by giving samples they could express it in their own words.
