Bu çalışmada filmlerine imzasını atmayı başarabilmiş bir yönetmen olan Derviş Zaim’in sinemasına auteur kuramı perspektifinde yaklaşılmaktadır. Sinema tarihindeki diğer kuramların gelişiminde olduğu gibi auteur kuramı da yapılan eleştiriler ve tartışmalar ışığında kendini geliştirmiştir. Bu sayede kuram sinemaya yönetmenin üslubunun, dünya görüşünün ve filmlerinde aktardığı anlamların algılanışına dair farklı bir yaklaşım kazandırmıştır.
Auteur kuramın öncülerinden Andrew Sarris “Notes on the Auteur Theory in 1962” adlı makalesinde auteur yönetmeni diğer yönetmenlerden ayıran öncülleri belirlemiştir. Sarris’in yönetmenin teknik yeterliliği, fark edilebilir kişiliği ve içsel anlam olarak belirlediği kuramın üç öncülüne Peter Wollen, 1969 yılında yayınlanan “Signs and Meaning in The Cinema” adlı kitabıyla yapısalcı bir yaklaşım getirmiştir. Wollen, yönetmenin yanı sıra bir filmin birçok etmen sonucu ortaya çıktığını, yapıtların göz ardı edilmeden benzerliklerin, tekrarların, farklılıkların ve karşıtlıklar sisteminin ortaya konmasını vurgulamaktadır.
Çalışmada auteur kuramının iki öncüsünün de yaklaşımları benimsenerek bir auteur olarak Derviş Zaim’in, kendi tarzını filmlerine nasıl yansıttığı incelenmektedir. Yönetmenin; tarihsel ve toplumsal olanı kültürle harmanlaması, geleneksel sanatlarla ilişkisi, karakterlerinin birbirinin devamı niteliğinde olması, filmlerinde mekânın bir karakter olarak varlık göstermesi ve kullandığı metaforik anlatım ile örtük dil yapısı, senaryolarını yazdığı, yapımcılığını ve yönetmenliğini üstlendiği sekiz filmi çerçevesinde analiz edilmektedir.
İn this study is approached Derviş Zaim, a director who has succeeded in producing his films and Derviş Zaim's cinema, from the perspective of the Auteur theory. Similar to the development of other theories in the history of cinema, the Auteur theory has developed itself in the light of critisms and discussions. Therefore, the theory has gained a different approach through the director's own style, his world vision, and the perception of the meanings he conveys in his films in the cinema. Andrew Sarris, who is one of the pioneers of the theory, specified precursors that disinguishes auteur directors from other directors in his article "Notes on the Auteur Theory in 1962" Peter Wollen brought a structuralist approach in his book "Signs and Meaning in the Cinema" to Sarris' three precursors of the theory, determined as technical competence of the director, recognizable personality and interior meaning. Wollen emphasized that a film emerges through many aspects besides the director; such as revealing the similarities, duplications, contradictions and differences of the system without ignoring the works. This study adopts the approaches of two pioneers of the Auteur Theory and investigates how Derviş Zaim as an auteur reflects his own style in his films. The director has been analyzed within the framework of eight films he directed, produced and wrote the screenplays of, in which he used implicit language structures ovelapping metaphorical expressions, blended the social and historical beings with culture, revealed his relationship with traditional arts and his characters being a continuation of each other and space emerging as a character in his films.
