Abstract: Bu tez çalışmasının amacı, kategorik değişkenler arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesinde kullanılan ilişki katsayılarının incelenmesi ve bazı ilişki katsayılarının belirlenen deneme koşullarındaki performanslarının karşılaştırılmasıdır.
The purpose of this thesis study is to examine the relationship coefficients used in determining the relationships between categorical variables and to compare the performance of some relationship coefficients in the determined trial conditions. For this purpose, a simulation study was planned, and random numbers were generated from the standard normal distribution with two variables, with a correlation of 0.5 and 0.9 respectively. Sample widths were determined as 30, 50, 100, 150 and 200 respectively. The coincidence numbers are divided equally and the table is coded to be 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5 scales. The performances of Pearson, Spearman rank, Kendall tau-b, Kendall tau-c, Goodman Kruskal's Gamma and Somer's d coefficients were compared in different table sizes, relationship levels and sample widths. In researches, it is generally worked with more than one variable. The reason for this is that the variable studied can also change under the influence of other variables. Therefore, the relationships between the variables need to be revealed. Relationship (correlation) coefficients are calculated to reveal the relationships between the variables. Relationship coefficients reveal both the degree of the relationship between the variables and the direction of this relationship. Different relation coefficients, which are recommended to be calculated in accordance with the type of variable, the shape of the distribution and the width of the sample, have been developed. The relation coefficient to be used for categorical variables varies according to the number of categories and whether there is a ranking among the categories. For example; In nominal variables, Phi coefficient is used for two categories, Cramer's V or Goodman Kruskal's Lambda coefficients are used for more than two categories, whereas ordinal variables use Spearman rank relation coefficient, Kendall tau-b, Kendall tau-c or Somer's d coefficient. Deciding which one to choose among these relationship coefficients can be a problem for researchers.
