Abstract: Amaç: Bu çalışma kadınlara verilen meme kanseri ve KKMM eğitiminin meme kanseri korkusu ve sağlık inançlarına olan etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Aim: The objective of this study was to determine the effect of breast cancer and BSE education on breast cancer fear and health beliefs. Materials and Methods: 177 women over 20 years of age were included in the randomized controlled experimental study. Participants were assigned to the experimental and control groups with a single blind randomized method. The breast cancer and BSE educational program was given to the experimental group. Data were collected before and 6 months after educational program. The research was conducted between 16 October 2017-15 April 2019. Data were collected with questionnnaire form, “Champion Health Belief Model Scale” and “Champion Breast Cancer Fear Scale”. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient, chi-square and t-test were used to evaluate the data. Results: After the pre-test training and 6-month follow-up, the BSE benefit perception (p = 0.010) and BSE confidence (p <0.001) subscales means scores of CHBMS of the women in the experimental group increased in the post-test, BSE barrier perception subscale mean score (p <0.001) decreased and when experimental group mean scores were compared with control group, the differences were statistically significant. In the post test, the mean CBCFS mean scores of the women in the experimental and control groups was not statistically different (p> 0.05); however, when compared with the control group, the breast cancer fear level of women in the experimental group was found to be increased in the posttest and the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.048). In the post test, it was found that the rates of clinical breast examination (p = 0.003) and mammography screening (p = 0.040) and BSE information (p <0.001) and BSE application (p <0.001) increased in the experimental according to control groups and the differences were statistically significant. . Conclusion: It was found that breast cancer and BSE education given to women had a positive effect on breast cancer knowledge, BSE practice and health beliefs and increased breast cancer fear level.
