Abstract: In each culture colours convey different meanings. This study aims at examining the concept of colour from ethnological, cultural and sociological points of view since ancient times. The study restricts itself to the concept of colour in Turkish mythology, legends, epics, and stories. Furthermore, it examines the concept of colour in Turkish dialects, limiting itself to geography, flags, items used, clothing, and certain practices in Newroz celebrations made by Gagauz, Saha, Uzbek, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Afghan Turks. The study explores the meanings and symbolic values of colours in a descriptive way.
