Title: Investigation of Dependence Levels and Perceptions of Nursing Care of Inpatients in Surgical and Medical Services

Abstract: Objective: This study was carried out to determine the care dependency levels of patients in surgical and internal services, and to examine the relationship between patients' care dependency levels and their perception of nursing care. Methods: The study was conducted as a descriptive study The universe of the research was determined according to the Ministry of Health Health Statistics Yearbook 2017 data, and the data were collected between November 2019 and January 2020 in line with the sample calculated according to the determined universe. The research was carried out with 245 person. Data were collected by using Personal Information Form, The Care Dependency Scale and the Scale of Patient Perception of Hospital Experience with Nursing. The data obtained; were analyzed using number, percentage, mean and t test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal Wallis Test. Results: The patients who were attended to the research had an age average of 58.65 +/- 19.21 year, 52.5% of them were male, 45.1% of them were primary school graduate, 59.8% of them had chronic disease. It was determined that the levels of care dependency of the individuals were low (69.12 +/- 17.80 points), and their perceptions of nursing care were high (68.11 +/- 8.02 points). It was determined that there was a positive and statistically weak correlation between the Care Dependence Scale of Sick Individuals and the scores of the Patients Perception of Nursing Care Scale (r: 0.233, P <.05). Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, the level of care dependency of individuals is low and their perception of nursing care is high. Care dependency levels of individuals differ according to their educational status, income status and having health insurance, while nursing care perceptions differ according to their health insurance status and the service, they are in.
