Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine distribution of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) including Total coliform (TC), Escherichia coli (EC) and Fecal streptococcus (FC) and Clostridium perfiringens (CP) in rural water supplies (ground, spring, surface) in the city of Ordu, its surroundings and boroughs (Unye, Ulubey, Fatsa, Kabatas, Korgan, Persembe, Golkoy, Akkus, Kumru, Gulyali, Gurgentepe, Catalpinar) and in rural drinking water which is not any water treatment (Ordu's village, Fatsa, Catalpinar, Kumru, Ikizce) Middle Black Sea, Turkey. 1020 rural water samples were collected on a weekly basis from up to 13 discrete sampling sites in Ordu and boroughs between September and february in 2010-2011. Subsequently, all collected water samples were examined by CFU per 100 mL(-1) for FIB. 304 (55.15 %); 275(50.23%); 87(16.9%); 49(7.96%) out of 542 water samples in autum and 189 (39.23%); 154(32.13%); 54(10.93%); 39(8.1%) out of 478 water samples in winter were found positive for TC, EC, CP, FC respectively. 85(56.66%); 101(67.33%) and 52 (34.66%); 62 (41.33%) out of 150 rural drinking water samples in autumn and winter respectively were found positive for (FS) and EC respectively by CFU per 100 mL(-1).
