Objective: the aim of this study was to determine the effect of different types of push-ups on upper limb muscle activation. Material and Method: Power Analysis was performed to determine the sample size. The result showed that a sample size of 30 would be sufficient to detect significant differences. The sample consisted of 30 participants over 18 years of age who had been actively engaged in sports for at least six years. Body weight was measured using a bioelectrical impedance device (Jawon x-scan plus II, Jawon Medical Co., Ltd., Korea.) while body length was measured using a Holtain herpenden portable stadiometer (Crosswell, Crymych, Pembs.UK.). A Noraxon (myoMUSCLE, Noraxon, Scottdale, AZ, USA) device was used as a measurement tool. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS, v 22.0). The Shapiro Wilk‟s test was used for normality testing. One-way ANOVA was used for between-group comparisons. A Tukey test was used to determine between which groups the difference existed. An independent sample t test was used for between-group differences. Results: There was a significant difference between the right and left pectoralis major and right triceps muscles on all surfaces (p <0.05). Total resistance exercises (TRX) resulted in a significant difference in the right pectoralis major and triceps muscles (p <0.05). TRX measurements pointed to a significant difference in the right deltoid and left deltoid muscles (p<0.05). Mean muscle activity on flat ground showed that the right latissimus dorsi and left latissimus dorsi muscles were more active than others (p<0.05). Mean muscle activity on a bosu ball showed that the right latissimus dorsi and left latissimus dorsi muscles were more active than others (p<0.05). VI Conclusion: Multiple motor features can be functionally focused at the same time for strength development. TRX, bosu ball, and flat push-ups are important for strength development. Muscular activation depends on the push-up style. Our results show that different types of push-up exercises result in different muscle activation between the right and left parts of the body and between different surface types.en_US
