Abstract: Bu araştırma, 8.sınıf öğrencilerinin ölçmede tahmin performanslarının ve kullandıkları stratejilerin incelenmesi üzerine yapılmış nitel bir çalışmadır. This research is a qualitative study of 8th grade students' estimation performance of measurement and the strategies they use. The research was conducted with 9 students selected by criterion sampling method in a secondary school in Ordu province in the 2020-2021 academic year. In this study, it was aimed to determine the length, area and volume estimation performances of the students and the estimation strategies they used regarding the selected real-life objects/places. The data were collected through interviews and observations made during the estimation process and analyzed in line with the sub-problems of the research. As a result of the research, it was determined that most of the students' estimation of length, area and volume in measurement were below the exact value and the estimations deviated from the true value as the objects/places grew. In addition, it was understood that as the academic success of the students increased, the length and volume estimation performances became closer to the exact value while the area estimation performances decreased. On the other hand, it was concluded that the length estimation performances of the students were better than the area and volume estimation performances. In addition, it was determined that as the size of the objects/places increased, the number of prediction strategies used increased and the students who chose the correct prediction strategy made better predictions. On the other hand, it was come out that the students used the comparison strategy the most in length estimations, and they made estimations using formulas in all of the area and volume estimations. In addition, considering all objects/places, it was determined that students with high academic success made predictions by using more strategies than other students.
