saptanmıştır.,This study was carried out to determine the antimicrobial activities, antioxidant
capacities and bioactive components of honeys and pollen obtained from three
different Rhododendron species grown in the Black Sea Region. For this purpose,
Rhododendron ponticum L. grown in Ordu province Urban forest (Yoroz locality),
Rhododendron luteum L. grown in the province of Ordu Aybastı plateau and
Rhododendron caucasicum L. grown in the Anzer plateau of İkizdere district were
chosen. Three bee hives were placed at the location of each Rhododendron plant and
honey and pollen samples were collected for 5 days.
Antimicrobial activities, antioxidant capacities and physicochemical properties of
honey and pollen samples obtained from different Rhododendron species were
investigated. Total phenolic contents and DPPH free radical scavenging activities
and antioxidant activities of honey and pollen samples were also investigated.
Moreover, the inhibition potentials of honey and pollen on acetylcholinesterase and
butyrylcholinesterase activity and lipid peroxidation were examined.
Honey samples obtained from Rhododendron caucasicum L. showed the highest
proline value (one of the important quality parameters for honey) (923.0 mg / kg)
which was significantly, while that obtained from Rhododendron ponticum L. had
the lowest proline value. The diaztase number of honeys, another important quality
factor, varied between 15.5 and 8.0 and the highest value was obtained in the
Rhododendron caucasicum L. All rhododendron species honey and pollen samples
displayed similar effects against pUC18 plasmid DNA. Moreover, raw extracts of
honey and pollen samples of forest rose were found to exhibit significant
antibacterial and antifungal activities against.
