| en_US |
dc.description.tableofcontents | In this study, mean-flux steady-state solutions for the Dardanelles Strait are obtained by utilizing a three-dimensional numerical ocean model for a wide range of barotropic flux range with initial conditions representing the mean annual salinity and temperature stratifications of the neighboring seas constructed by the long-term CTD data from the present literature under the realistic topography and hydrographic conditions. Despite the neglect of time-dependent effects and simplifications in open boundary conditions, it is found that the model solutions is able to provide results parallel to the known hydrography of the strait while successfully conserving energy and volume properties within the model domain. Variation of the Froude Number estimations based on a two-layer approximation together with the hdyrographic responses through the strait indicates hydraulic transitions at two locations; Kilitbahir contraction section and the Aegean Sea exit of the channel. Layer flux responses under the two-layer approximation and the variation of the sea-level difference between the two ends of the strait with respect to the net barotropic volume-flux given by the model solutions are at least partially conformable to the literature. | en_US |
